Past Recipients

Our past Distinguished Global Award Recipients are the First Lady of Nigeria, Her Excellency Dr. (Mrs.) Aisha Buhari – who was honored for Excellence in Women Empowerment and Gender Development during the United Nations General Assembly on September 2018, Ambassador Fatima Kyari Mohammed, the Permanent Observer of the Africa Union to the United Nations honored for using her platform to work with displaced, vulnerable communities from Northeast Nigeria, Lucia Kaiser, a two-time Emmy Award Winner, etc

The Aim

The overarching aim of the award is to draw attention to the fact that the United Nations has declared 2015-2025 as the Decade of People of African Descent. More significantly, GEM USA seeks to use the awards to eloquently celebrate the fact that People of African Descent are, indeed, excellently proving their mettle towards the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. GEM USA is particularly fixated on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 17 in its bid to strengthen those global partnerships that can help in the achievement of the ambitious targets of both the United Nations 2030 Agenda, and African Union 2063 Agenda.

The Goal

Our journey continues towards ensuring that our awardees are totally representative of what it takes to power and drive socio-economic initiatives in line with the fulfillment of most of the Agenda 2063 and SDG goals.

Our ultimate goal is to feature the awardees (Blessings of Africa Iconic Leaders) in the next book series devoted to highlighting Champions of Change and Iconic Leaders of African Descent.
