Her Excellency Mrs. Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow, The First Lady of The Republic of The Gambia Honored with the Distinguished Global Award for Excellence in Women, Children, and Youth Development and the Blessings of Africa Iconic Champion of Change Award

Dr. Queen Blessing Itua, Visionary Founder of Global Empowerment Movement (GEM) USA is proud to present Her Excellency Mrs. Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow with the GEM USA prestigious, Distinguished Global Award on the occasion of the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 74) High-Level Segment, in recognition of her outstanding work as the First Lady of Gambia.

As the loving mother of Gambia, we are happy to collaborate with the Gambian Mission to the United Nations to celebrate Her Excellency for her dedication to the establishment of programs to reduce extreme poverty, assisting marginalized rural women, girls and vulnerable children in The Gambia; which closely aligns with the mission of our organization – Empowerment!

GEM takes delight in honoring and celebrating leaders dedicated to positively impact the lives of the people that they serve. Her Excellency has been exemplary at using her platform to making a difference, including championing the Children on the Move initiative and for advocating for the implementation of enacted legislation and policies that protect the rights of children. These are very laudable efforts that have received international recognition today.

Dr. Queen Blessing also presented a Georgia State resolution from Rep. Karen Bennett, the Chair of Georgia State Black Caucus, the largest in the United  States

Her excellency graciously graced our event to celebrate our immediate past Distinguished Global Award Recipient, Her Excellency Dr. (Mrs.) Aisha Buhari, the First Lady of Nigeria – who was honored for Excellence in Women Empowerment and Gender Development during the 73rd Segment of United Nations General Assembly.

We are proud to amplify voices at this very special occasion to remind us of the very important, selfless work of leaving “no one woman, youth, or child behind.”

We celebrate Her Excellency achievements for using her platform as the First lady to positively impact lives and the society that she serves,
as a role model.

As we celebrate Her Excellency with the distinguished  Global Award for Excellence, and the Blessings of Africa, Iconic Champion of Change, we used the occasion to motivate others to be the Blessings of their Communities and Champions of Positive Impact, needed to change our narratives – the African narratives.HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS ONCE AGAIN FOR THIS GLOBAL RECOGNITION!

The United Nations Committee on the Status of Women (CSW63) event will preview “Empowered,” a film based on the following excerpts from the book: “We Are the Blessings of Africa, Rebuilding Our greatness Together,” endorsed by the First Lady of Nigeria, Dr. (Mrs.) Aisha Buhari.               

Empower a woman, and the issues of human trafficking, domestic violence, abuse, impoverishment, and abandonment will be tackled with ease – excerpts from our latest book, ’We Are the Blessings of Africa, Reshaping Our Greatness Together’

The book and movie are powerful tools for change, calling on the empowerment of women and youths as a critical first step to Human Trafficking and poverty eradication and the link to sustainable development.

 Join us in honoring and thanking Her Excellency Ambassador Fatima Kyari Mohammed and Ms. Lucia Kaiser for this prestigious honor for Excellence in Service. The awards go as part of GEM celebration of the leaders and individuals who are role models. The Global Empowerment Movement (GEM) USA Corporation takes delight in celebrating the leaders and individuals who exemplify what we advocate.

Ambassador Fatima Kyari Mohammed, the Permanent Observer of the Africa Union to the United Nations was chosen for this award due to her using her platform to work with displaced, vulnerable communities from Northeast Nigeria particularly women and children and youth empowerment as the Founder of the LikeMinds Project, a non-profit, non-partisan Organization.

Ms. Lucia Kaiser, a two-time Emmy Award-Winning Producer/Humanitarian, was chosen for this award due to her outstanding lifetime contributions to humanitarian causes and her pioneering role model to women empowerment.

The Special Guest of Honor/Chair of the Side Event is the First Lady of Nigeria, Her Excellency Dr. (Mrs.) Aisha Buhari, 2018 Recipient of GEM USA Most Distinguished Global Award for Excellence in Women Empowerment and Gender Development – Represented by DR. HAJO SANNI – OON, PHD, Senior Special Assistant to the Wife of the President of Nigeria.

Activating and Strengthening Women Empowerment through Economic and Social Inclusion: Empowerment as a Link to Poverty Eradication and Sustainable Development – CSocD57 Side Event

The aim of the side event is to highlight how Women and Youth inclusiveness, Economic and Equality Empowerment are the keys to Eradicate Poverty, Curb Human Trafficking, and Achieve Sustainable Development Goals.
The side event discussion will address the following critical areas: Economic empowerment of the marginalized poor people, challenges to social inclusion, the effect of women and youth economic empowerment, and gender inequality on poverty in Africa. Poverty is the common root of Africa human trafficking, abuse of women, victimization of the vulnerable and the marginalized people in need. In addition, the side event will explore ways we can strengthen empowerment through economic, education, political, fiscal, social inclusion, social protection policies because strengthening women and youth economic empowerment to be agents of change is the prerequisite for poverty eradication and the achievement of all the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
